You might be lucky enough that the damage is restricted to the rocker arms underneath the camshafts snapping - these are the weak link on these engines and quite often take the brunt of a snapped timing belt without any subsequent damage to the valves in the cylinder head.

The rockers are pressed metal and break into pieces at the roller, more than likely it will have bent some valves slightly as their stems are only 5mm diameter. This one had 6 broken rockers and 8 bent valves on 2 cylinders.
34 posts · Joined 2015. #1 · Oct 26, 2018. Hi. I have the crank oil seal to change on a 2011 insignia 2.0 cdti. Removing the aux belt pulley is simple enough (4 fluted spline bolts). However the crank sprocket also needs to come off. This means untightening the 19mm hex bolt. Which appears to be the Chuck Norris of bolts.

I presumed the same 1.6 cdti engine is used in both models, but I’ve not come across anything similar on this forum, so wondering if the Insignia 1.6 cdti is setup differently, or the Astra 1.6 cdti problem is exaggerated? Also, does the 2.0 cdti also have a timing chain or a traditional cam belt? Thanks for reading.
